How to sell on Amazon
Amazon has a huge online presence, and selling through this site can really boost your sales. To get started as a seller on Amazon, you need to follow a few simple steps.
Step 1: Register with Amazon
First up, you need to register for a seller account. You’ll need a few things to complete this process, including primary contact details, your company registration details and your bank account information. Amazon doesn’t accept PayPal, so you’ll need your debit or credit card details too.
Step 2: Get listing
Once you’re all set up, you can go ahead and start listing your products. Upload photos and add any relevant text such as the brand, model number and condition. If you’re curious about the price of similar items that are already for sale on Amazon Marketplace you should search for that item, view what other sellers are asking for and then press the ‘Sell on Amazon’ button to speed up the process of listing that product.
Step 3: Package and post
Once someone has bought one of your items, Amazon will send an email to let you know your item has been sold – well done! Creating an Account
If you want to sell on Amazon, you must register for a Seller Account. To become an Amazon seller, you need to visit the Amazon Seller Central webpage and click ‘Register Now’.
If you already have an existing Amazon account, you can use this and sign in to begin the registration process. If not, you can sign up with an email or mobile number and click ‘create new account’. You will be asked to provide your name and create a password, before being directed to their terms and conditions which you should read thoroughly before accepting.
A few more steps are required to complete registration. You will be asked for your business and contact information. If you’re an individual seller you can simply say you don’t have a company registration number, and move on to providing your address, phone number and create a display name.
Your bank details will be required for the next step. Amazon doesn’t accept PayPal like other marketplaces, so make sure you have your debit or credit card to hand. The final step is to verify your phone number and then you’re done. You’re ready to start listing items and selling on Amazon.
Setting up your Profile
After your registration is complete, you’ll want to personalise your Amazon seller profile and add more character to your store.
Editing the ‘About’ section is a great way to provide buyers with more details about your sales policies, company values and a space to add background information about who you are as a seller and what your store aims to offer customers. You can write as much as you like in this box.
Adding a seller logo can also help your store look more professional, and may prompt sales from returning customers if they recognise your image. The logo must be 120 pixels x 30 pixels and be a .jpg or .gif image.
You can also add extra information about shipping policies and prices, and you must include a return policy that is as favourable as Amazon’s return policies which you can find here. Sellers may choose to use Amazon policies as their own, whereas others may edit them to provide some flexibility. It really just depends on your circumstances.

Listing your Items
After registering, filling in your store details and organising shipping arrangements, the next step for every seller is to start listing items online. Listing items to sell on Amazon is easy, and there are two simple ways to do it.
You can simply search for the product you wish to sell on Amazon, find the exact product and click the ‘Sell on Amazon’ button which will be on the right hand side. Alternatively, you can go to the Sell your Stuff page and search for the product by ISBN, UPC or ASIN. If you can’t find what you want to sell, there’s an option to add a page. Describing your item
Once you’ve identified the product, the next step is to identify the condition of your item, state how many you have to sell and then set a price. You can also select a shipping method for each item.
There are some prohibited items that Amazon won’t let you sell, so make sure you check before trying to add them to your store! There’s the obvious, including illegal substances, cigars and fireworks, but there are many other items sellers should be aware of. Restrictions also apply to particular items so it’s best to check the full list of prohibited items compiled by Amazon before listing something you’re unsure of.

Fulfilment by Amazon
Some sellers choose to use Fulfilment by Amazon (FBA) to ship their items, which is a service that stores your inventory for you, then packages your items and sends them to the buyer automatically after they have been sold. For those who don’t sell on a huge scale, packaging your own items and organising your own deliveries can be more profitable. Amazon estimates automatically how much each item should cost to ship and takes that fee from the buyer, and then passes it onto you to help cover the costs.
